                             AQUARIUS  &  HEALTH
                               January 20 to February 18

Ruling Planet:   Saturn/Traditional--Uranus/Modern***Element:   Air***Modality:  Fixed***Sign:  Masculine

Sun in Aquarius can mean poor circulation, blood disorders connected with the colon, carbon monoxide poisoning, lumbar disorders, and lower leg cramping. Aquarius people should adhere to a  low-starch diet and conserve oxygen for better use. This  sign is involved with blood  poisoning that can be traced to toxemia resulting from colon statis.

Parts of the body ruled by Aquarius include ankles, shins, veins, and circulatory system. Its ruling planet, Uranus governs the nervous system and endocrine system.  Aquarius has domain over the spinal cord protected by the back vertebrae. Thus nerve-related diseases having to do with the spinal column are under this sign's sway. Aquarians are prone to the following afflictions (which are related to the other fixed signs, Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and particularly to Leo its opposite sign):  weak or impure blood, hormonal imbalances, leg cramping,  poor oxygenation;, arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) ,  heart disease, venous disorders, varicose veins, phlebitis,  spasmodic disorders, spinal disorders, weak vision, genital infections, edema (swelling of the feet/ankles) and hypersensitivity. The skin and all its conditions is governed by this sign. Typical Aquarian complaints include acne, spots, boils, psoriasis, and  eczema.

To stimulate circulation, Aquarians are encouraged to engage in strenuous exercise such as jogging, hiking, running, bicycling, swimming, aerobics, or brisk walking for 30 to 60 minutes per day at least 3 times a week.  Poor circulation also results in general lack of energy and lower body heat.

Foods which stimulate blood circulation, like chili and cayenne peppers, as well as brain and nerve foods, like wheat grass, oats and barley are indicated for Aquarians. Red-colored foods like beets, radishes, peppers, saffron, strawberries, etc. are beneficial. Iron and magnesium values should be attended to.

Regular breathing exercises like yoga is vital  to keeping the blood pure and prevent gloom and over sensitivity to unregulated breathing. Water should be oxygenated and they should avoid spring and carbonated waters. Expose the water to read rays for vital warmth and blood building qualities. Recuperation comes through mental relaxation and change of scenery.

Because Aquarians are nervous and often insomniacs, any tranquilizing herb will produce a calming effect. Red clover, chamomile and valerian tea tranquilize and strengthen the nervous system and guarantee an uninterrupted night's sleep when taken before retiring. Added to the bathwater, rosemary oil reduces hypertension, stimulates the circulation and increases body heat. Bilberry leaves are said to reduce varicose veins, hyssop regulates blood pressure, and caraway strengthens sprained limbs. Hawthorn, another herb, increases the muscular action of the heart, helps to dilate the coronary vessels, and improves the blood's  ability to utilize oxygen. Hawthorn also helps to ease insomnia, angina, hypertension and other circulatory disorders. However, it is not a substitute for heart medication!

High blood pressure is helped by loosing weight, cutting back on salt, and eating less saturated fat and adding more fiber to the diet. There's also a trio of  minerals that's very helpful: potassium, magnesium and calcium. Among the herbs,  tincture of dandelion is a recommended diuretic. Dandelion contains calcium and iron, and has also been used to treat poor circulation, bowel inflammation, and stomach disorders.

Vitamin B (especially niacin) and vitamin C are necessary for the maintenance of strong blood vessels and prevention of blood clots. Vitamin E helps to dilate blood vessels, improve circulation, and reduce susceptibility to varicose veins. Avoid very hot baths which can break up veins under your skin. Messaging your legs daily from toes to your thighs with Vitamin E oil or any other message oil can improve circulation.

Frequent cramping in the legs may be caused by deficiencies in calcium, thiamine, magnesium, and or sodium. Vitamin C is necessary to ensure proper circulation and help ease pain in the muscles and joints. Protein will hasten the healing process

The mineral salt associated with Aquarians is sodium chloride, otherwise known as common table salt. Sodium chloride helps to maintain water content throughout the body. However, do not add salt to food as this will exacerbate water retention and hypertention to which Aquarians are already prone. Instead eat more spinach, cabbage, lettuce, cucumbers, figs, lentiles, strawberries, apples, carrots, radishes and chestnuts--all foods rich in sodium chloride.

If your birthday is between January 20 to January 21,  your birthstone is the garnet, a dark red stone that is also associated with the Sun (Leo). If you were born between February 1 and 18, your birthstone is the amethyst, a lovely purple stone renowned for its healing ability, especially in the treatment of migraine headaches.

The colors governed by Aquarians are red, which symbolizes the flow of blood, and black, associated with Saturn, coruler of Aquarius. Sitting in the sun, bathing under a red light, wearing red clothes, and buying freshly cut roses, all act to restore vitality and increase blood flow.

Aquarians fear involvement in a personal relationship which will restrain their freedom. It is this fear that interferes with their circulatory system and can cause problems for them.
