LEO & HEALTH
July 24 to August 23
Ruling Planet:
Sun***Element: Fire***Modality: Fixed***Sign:
Masculine
People born during this time are fortunate indeed! You are endowed with tremendous physical energy and recuperative powers. Your whole life is characterized by dynamic intensity of purpose and action. After all, the Sun is that blazing golden star around which the planets of our solar system revolve and is the source of all vital power and the regulator of life forces on earth.
Ruled by the sun, the sign of Leo governs the heart and spine (dorsal vertebrae). It is also responsible for back ailments of many varieties in a kind of reflex action with Aquarius, its opposite sign. Leo rules the vertebrae that protect the spinal cord vulnerability Health sensitivities include: back pains, angina, irregular heartbeat, heartburn, and edema (water retention). Leo influences illnesses and diseases of the blood and the circulation. These include varicose veins, hemorrhoids, high blood pressure, heartburn, anemia, arteriosclerosis, poor circulation and possible coronary disease.
Some of Leo's health problems stem from his fear of insufficient recognition and applause and inability to express creativity. Leo needs to watch out for his generous spirit and his overworked heart! A "heart" that cannot open up and express itself is a very "clogged heart". A true Leo is indeed "all heart".
Phosphate of magnesium (Mag. Phos.), the mineral salt associated with Leo, helps to maintain normal blood pressure. For Leos, who rely on their vitality, this mineral will restore vigor and strengthen muscles and blood circulation. Foods rich in magnesium are walnuts, onions, coconuts, plums, almond, blueberries, oatmeal, oranges, lemons, lettuce, cabbage, figs, asparagus , and eggs.
To prevent arteriosclerosis and possible coronary disease, it is imperative to lower "bad cholesterol" and raise "good cholesterol" levels in the blood. Leos should restrict themselves from eating red meats, shellfish, dairy products and saturated fats. They should eat high fiber cereals, fruits, vegetable and low-fat diary products.
Herbs which prevent high blood pressure include rosemary, lavender, heather and anise. Borage tea acts as a blood purifier. Dandelion, rich in vitamins A, B, and C, cleanses the blood stream and functions as a diuretic. Vitamin E prevents high blood pressure and can be taken in tablet form or by eating wheat germ, sunflower seeds, salmon, peanut butter, broccoli, and spinach. For better circulation, try thyme, nettles, gentian, comfrey and alfalfa.
Leos need to do things in moderation, if they can. They need a fair amount of restorative sleep, whether it is in long stretches or in many cat-naps.
