     Virgo, the Virgin, is a sign with a blend of two forces, not entirely harmonious. These forces are earth and air. Virgo is an earth sign ruled by Mercury, whose airy influence does not harmonize with the humble earthy influence of the innate sign character.

     People born under this sign are very practical, down to earth, and diligent workers with competent and discriminating intellects. They gather knowledge from many sources and have the ability to memorize and retain  what they have  learned. They are critical and discriminating. They analyze everything and constantly find fault in others.

     They are clever at speech and writing but their delivery and style is dry and monotonous . Mercury allows them to understand human nature intellectually, but they rarely experience the gamut of human passions. However, they are very tactful with people.

     Virgos are usually very modest and unassuming. They do not require the company of other people and often want to be alone. They are cool in demeanor and rarely loose their temper. They are content to work quietly and unpretentiously in the background at their chosen or given task. 

     Being usually shy and retiring, Virgos have an inner reserve that never melts. They fail to gain the confidence of others.  Their innate willingness to serve the rest of humanity endears them to people who need their services. 

     Virgos are methodical and good at routine tasks. They love details and sometimes, "they don't see the forest for the trees". They are good at mathematics and do well as statisticians. Their bank accounts are not loaded but they are balanced and accurate. You will find many Virgos in the services fields such as secretaries, nurses, dieticians, doctors, housekeepers, veterinarians, and civil service workers. Some Virgos love to play musical instruments as they are meticulous with the details of the composition of rhythms and beats. After all, there is a "mathematical formula" to any composition and production of music and Virgos can remember and follow it with perfection!

     In the love arena, they are rather selfish and self-centered and do not like the idea of of conquest or self-sacrifice. They do make reliable spouses and their children are not spoiled but their needs are well provided. Where marriage is involved, they are so fussy, discriminating, and critical that it is hard for them to make a final choice. If they do marry, they make kind, cooperative partners, domestic and reliable provided that the pair have more of a brother and sister relationship. Virgos will inspire the household with virginal quality of thought. Many Virgos choose not to marry and usually live alone. It is hard for them to surrender themselves, and do not know how to give unrestrainedly, or even comprehend the heights of poetic or physical love. They are exceedingly cold. Generally, negative Virgo people are tedious, hair-splitting, fussy, penny-pinching, and boring to exasperation.

     Virgos are not handsome, idealistic, heroic or adventurous. But they are trustworthy clean and decent. At best they are plain people, treating life as a placid fact. All the Virgo processes of thought are factual, earthbound and material. They conform to recognized patterns of conduct because they are limited and fearful in spirit. 

     Ill health is not tolerated by Virgos and they dramatize their illnesses whether real or imaginary. They are the hypochondriacs of the Zodiac and many are found under this sign. On the whole, they enjoy surprisingly good health as they live sensibly and healthy and the result is usually a long life and a healthful old age. Virgo is one of the old-age signs of the Zodiac. It is the "health sign" since it rules the 6th house of the Zodiac which also rules pets. Virgos usually love to have and care for pets. 

     Virgo rules the bowels, solar-plexus and especially the alimentary canal.  Health sensitivities include: digestive ailments, hernia, diarrhea, constipation, peritonitis, and colic. Also, being Mercury ruled, the nervous system  is sensitive and hypochondria  is a characteristic of this sign.

     Virgos get along very well with those who have Moon in Virgo. They are compatible with other Virgos and the other two remaining earth signs, Capricorn (December 22 to January 20) and Taurus (April 20 to May 21).
